Šimiyi's Sovereign Seeds 4 Justice - a radical food sovereignty group in Simi Valley
Simi Valley is an illegal city occupying native Chumash land. The land was never ceded or sold, it was stolen from people that had built communities there for over 10,000 years. Working with Chumash communities, Simi activists built a radical food sovereignty group that teaches our community how to grow our own food organically and while being in harmony with the land we're planting in. We take a lot of our inspiration from Community Roots garden in Oxnard, a community garden that feeds our neighbors spiritually & physically. We function as an oppositional system, a place where people can barter goods & services without spending a single dollar! The food grown by us is always given away for free, or cooked first before meals are given away for free. We host community events where people can learn skills (like cooking, wordworking, food preservation, social justice advocacy, and more) and have fun at the same time!
